OKLAHOMA THOROUGHBRED CHAMPIONS FOR 2008 ANNOUNCED The Oklahoma Thoroughbred Association held its annual banquet to announce the champion Oklahoma Bred or foaled horses for 2008. The event held at Remington Park was another example of the excitement and interest in racing and breeding in Oklahoma as the sold out crowd witnessed the presentation of the awards and had a festive time. The Horse of the Year was presented to the multiple millionaire, Graded Stakes winner and runner-up in the 2008 Breeder’s Cup Turf Mile, Kip Deville. He is owned by I.E.A.H. Stables of New York and was bred by Dr. Warren Center, of Center Hills Farm. Kip Deville was also chosen as the champion Older Male and champion Turf Horse.
Other Champions presented were 2 yr old colt or gelding No Advance, owned by Hal Browning and Dave Falkner. 2 yr old filly Peach Brew, owned by Dr. Robert Zoellner, 3 yr old colt or gelding Steal Your Face, owned by Rockin BB Ranch & Glenn Chamandy. 3 yr old filly Approved Bluff, owned by Vickie Fixley.
The champion Older Mare and champion Sprinter was Reel Chrome, also owned by Hal Browning and Dave Faulkner. The Thoroughbred Times Leading Stallion award was presented by Marie Perdue of Thoroughbred Times to Prospector’s Music. Champion Broodmare was Klondyke Kaytie, owned by Dr. Warren Center. Dr. Center was also presented the Bloodhorse Mint Julep Cup by Shirley Dievert of Bloodhorse and the T.O.B.A. Leading Breeder award for 2008. He was the breeder of horses who earned $1,102,636.
President Dan Case announced the three OTA Scholarship winners for the upcoming academic year. He also made a presentation of The 2008 Presidents Award to Chris Lincoln for his long time support of Oklahoma thoroughbred racing, and being a nationally recognized racing commentator and sportscaster.
The Oklahoma Horse racing Commission also presented their champion awards for Oklahoma Bred’s based on earnings of state bred funds for 2008. Chairman Patrick Grimmett of the OHRC presented the champion Racing Stock award to Marq French, owned by Van and Margie French.
As the fall meet at Remington Park begins Aug 21, everyone is excited about the future of racing and breeding in Oklahoma.
