CLASSICS NOMINATION DATE CHANGES
The Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Thoroughbred Association has voted to make changes in the Classics nomination dates for the foals of 2005 and going forward. The previous deadline for nominations for the Classics had been December 31st of the horse’s yearling year, with a late payment. The board has elected to alter that system and add additional dates that foal will be able to enter the program. Those new added dates with penalties are listed on the 2005 foal nomination published in this issue.
Beginning with the 2006 foal crop the original nomination date will remain in March of the yearling year. If a nominator pays the total amount due through the Feb payment of the two year old year, they will receive a discount of $50, thus making the amount due in March $325. The nominator may choose to pay only the $75 due at that time and then make the additional two payments in September of yearling year and February of the two-year-old year, making the amount paid $375.
Further additional late payments may be made beyond the current Dec 31st of the yearling year. Those payments could be made up to May 31st of the two-year-old year for a substantial late payment. Also a provision was established for horses that were originally nominated but payments were not continued to make up those payments with a penalty. The new changes will allow horses until May 31st of the two year old year to nominated to the Classics.
The above listed changes will be listed on the 2006 foal nomination form, which will be published upon approval of the OHRC. Anyone with questions should contact the OTA office for information.
