D FINE OKIE VICTORIOUS IN 2007 $100,000 CLASSIC08classicslogo-2

In what became a battle of the sexes, D Fine Okie challenged
the boys when going postward in the main event of the
fifteenth running of Oklahoma Classics day on September 29.
It was also a battle of champions with Zee Oh Six trying for a
record-setting fourth $100,000 Classic win and D Fine Okie
following up on her ‘06 tally in the Filly & Mare Turf.

OKLAHOMA CLASSICS DAY SLATED FOR SEPTEMBER 27, 2008 AT REMINGTON PARK

TWO YEAR OLD RACING FOR 2008
The OTA and Fair Meadows at Tulsa have reached an agreement for FMT to begin offering races for two-year-olds during the latter part of their meet (June 4-July 26). Tentatively races will be offered at four furlongs during July to help Oklahoma horsemen prepare their horses for the fall meet (Aug 21-Dec 14) at Remington Park in Oklahoma City.

Remington will also offer races for two-year-olds early during their meet to give horsemen
additional opportunity to have horses ready for the meet and for Oklahoma Classics.

ADDITIONAL RACE AND PURSE INCREASES FOR 2008 OKLAHOMA CLASSICS

The Oklahoma Thoroughbred Association as the sponsor of the Oklahoma Classics Program has made two changes and has increased the purses for seven of the races for the 2008 Oklahoma Classics Day of racing. After listening to Oklahoma Breeders and Horsemen who expressed the desire for a short race for females was needed, thus a new race for Fillies & Mares 3 years old and up at 6 ½ Furlong has been added to the schedule for the event. Thus there will be a total of 8 Oklahoma Classic races run on the biggest night for Oklahoma Breds.

NEW SUPPLEMENT PAYMENT ADDED FOR OLDER HORSES
Many horsemen wanted the opportunity to enter the program after the end of the nomination process as younger horses. Due to these requests previously a change was made to allow 2 year old horses to be nominated for life with two additional added penalty dates. A 2 year old may nominate after December 31st of their yearling year until April 1st of their 2 year old year with a payment of $2,700 or after April 1st until July 31st of that year with a payment of $10,000. No additional opportunities for lifetime nomination for 2 year olds is available, after the July 31st date.

Again many wished to be able to make older horses not originally nominated to the program eligible to participate. After much discussion with horsemen and the members of the Board of Directors of the OTA a decision was made to offer the opportunity to nominate for a single year of the races. Any Oklahoma Bred 3 years old and older, may pay a supplement fee equal to 13% of the purse for any race, up to time of entry for the race. This is only a one-time fee for that year’s race and does not make the horse eligible for life. Download the .pdf file with more info, and contact the OTA office with any questions regarding these new changes or about the Oklahoma Classics in general. 85% of the funds from these supplements will be put into the purses for 2008, and 10% will go into the Classic funds for future races.
